Cambodia's representative to UN tells special rapporteur to present evidence of his report

GENEVA: The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Sokkhoeurn An, responded to the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Cambodia, Vitit Muntarbhorn, for "evidence." To highlight his report that human rights and democracy in Cambodia are intimidating and worrying.

In a press release dated 30 March 2022, Mr. Sokkhoeurn An responded to Mr. Vitit Muntarbhorn by expressing his dissatisfaction with the report of the reporter who wrote the report incorrectly and violated the principle of standing on neutral facts.

He added: "Again, the Special Rapporteur is requested to provide concrete evidence to substantiate the two allegations made by the Special Rapporteur in the past."

The Permanent Representative of Cambodia added that complete peace, territorial unity and real national unity came from Prime Minister Hun Sen's "win-win policy" and that this success has driven Cambodia's growth and development and achieved many notable achievements, in particular, turned Cambodia into a "low middle income country" in 2016 and left the status of a least developed country in 2021.

Sokkhoeurn An added: "Last week, His Excellency Kishida Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, expressed his pride in Cambodia's progress and said that the world, which is in dire straits, should learn from the country's peaceful spirit of Cambodia.”

He also instructed Vitit Muntarbhorn that the dialogue on human rights is not about race and excellence on issues, but rather about long-distance running that requires commitment, effort and Real progress, and discussions on this topic should be based on statistics and facts, not on perceptions.
